Consuming Radish and Clinical Depression

Image
As time goes by, more and more people are suffering from depression. This means that there has been an increase in the demand for medication like antidepressants . Researchers are greatly concerned , not only because of the significant rise in people suffering from depression, but also because antidepressants are expensive and bring with them many side effects! It is for these reasons that researchers are focusing on finding alternative treatments such as plants which are safe , effective and affordable .   There are many natural remedies for depression. In an article from Food News , Ellaine Castillo says that one of the natural remedies is the rat-tailed radish (Raphanus Caudatus) which is consumed in various Asian and European Countries. The radish’s antidepressant properties were found by a team of Pakistani researchers from the University of Karachi and Hamdard University. In another article from SFGate , it was highlighted that the reason why radishes are so healthy is bec

Are Scientists Being Paid to Hide the Harmful Effects of Sugar?

Sugar is one of those ingredients that is loved by everyone. After all, it is what makes food so sweet! Even though our body uses it as a source of energy, too much sugar can cause major problems. In fact, according to Healthline : "a high-sugar diet may lead to obesity and insulin resistance, both of which are risk factors for diabetes." Moreover, a diet which includes too much sugar may lead to excessive weight gain, it may increase your risk of heart disease, may cause acne and it has also been linked to cancer and depression! It may also fasten the skin and cellular aging process among other things. Foodnews says that “the true nature of sugar has long been suppressed by a greedy, profit-driven industry”. It is scary to think that there may be even the slightest possibility that this is true! Consumers have been fooled into thinking that ‘fat free’ and ‘low fat’ foods are the “healthier” alternatives to food containing fat. However, these products are usually

The UK Parliament is Encouraged to Switch to a Vegan Diet!

In last week's blog post I talked about the rise of plant-based food in people's diets. I found this topic so interesting that I decided to do some more research on veganism and its latest advancements.  Logo for Veganuary Whilst doing some digging on the internet I stumbled upon an article written by Maria Chiorando (who is a Vegan Journalist) on a website which "specializes" on plant-based news.  This article was both striking and interesting. The article talked about how the UK Parliament is being encouraged by a vegan charity called Veganuary to switch to a plant-based diet in order to save the planet . This charity will be actively working to get the nation's politicians to persuade them to do without dairy and meat in January. The charity is hoping that if the members of parliament join, they will encourage more people join. To be fair, this is the least they can do! Especially since Veganuary in a statement to Plant Based News said that;

The Rise of Veganism!

The word vegan was not a new one for me. However, it was only recently that I stopped to think about it and what it really means. I was inspired by two family members who have recently embarked on this journey of veganism. They make it look so easy (and delicious) that I decided that doing some research on it would not only be interesting but even beneficial.  As the years go by, more research is done on what we consume on a daily basis and its effects on our mind, body and surroundings. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of what feed their bodies, and this has resulted in the so-called "rise in veganism".  A vegan is plain terms is a person whose diet does not include any animal products like meat, dairy etc. A vegan, if asked the question "Why go vegan?" , will probably give you a set of reasons. One of the reasons is obviously for the animals. This for them is the main reason to change to a vegan lifestyle and stick to it religiously. The Ve
